Lyla Ann Thornton, 72, of Janesville, WI passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, November 24, 2010 at Mercy Hospital. She was born April 19, 1938, the daughter of William “Lyle” and Lillian (Koppleman) McCartney. She graduated from Janesville High School in 1956 then worked several years at Parker Pen Company where she met Darrell Thornton. They were married December 19, 1959 in Janesville and have resided in La Prairie township ever since. She graduated from real estate school then sold real estate for many years, making many, many friends in that time. Lyla enjoyed snowmobiling, bird watching, planting flowers and taking pretty sunset pictures. She loved her family, above all, and devoted her whole life to them. She was a great fan of NASCAR and the Green Bay Packers.
Lyla is survived by her husband, Darrell , children, Deborah (David Preston) Thornton of Lake Tomahawk, WI, Lyle Thornton of Janesville, grandchildren, Michael and Mitchell Thornton both of Janesville, a sister, Flora (Matt) Vanderkop of Texas, an aunt, Janice McCartney of Texas, many nieces, nephews and cousins She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 uncles and an aunt.
A very special thanks to Pastor Lawrence Hoskins for his prayers and home visits to Lyla. Also to Karen Bolden and the entire staff of Mercy Hospice for their caring and devotion to Lyla in her time of need.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 28, 2010 at 4 p.m. at the Tabernacle Holiness Church, 1600 B Huebbe Parkway, Beloit, WI. Henke-Clarson Funeral Home assisted the family. www.henkeclarson.com
